Why Plan So Far Ahead?

One of the best things you can do for your future is planning ahead. Getting out of the military can be a difficult time in your life –- if you think about it, almost everything in your life has been taken care of for you by the military:

    •    The military takes care of your health
    •    The military takes care of feeding you
    •    The military takes care of your rent
    •    The military takes care of your education
    •    The military takes care of many other things that we take for granted

The military conditions us to depend on it for our care – which can be great to a certain extent. This presents a problem for those of us that get “used to" all of this getting taken care of. When you get out, the transition can be a lot to handle, especially for those of us who are not great planners.
By planning ahead properly, you can ensure that your transition out of the military occurs seamlessly, so you are not standing around the day you get your DD-214 wondering what you are going to do with your life.

Our checklist is designed to make you think through most of these issues and put pressure on you to start taking control of your life BEFORE you get out, not AFTER.

A perfect example of this is going back to school. Most schools have many requirements during the application process. They also have specific application deadlines. If you wait until the day you get out to begin to think through all of these issues, you could easily end up missing the application deadline and having to wait around for a full year wondering why you didn’t start studying for the SAT, why you didn’t get your recommendation letters together, or why you didn’t document all of your accomplishments while you were still in the service.

By using TerminalLeave.com’s checklist and resources, you will be ahead of the game and ready to pursue the next chapter of your life.  We wish you the best and hope our tools help to prepare you for the world in front of you.
