How much do I have to pay for this service?
TerminalLeave.com is completely free for all active duty personnel. You do not have to pay anything from the time you register to your last day in the service. You are welcome to continue to use the tools for free as a veteran as well.
How early can I sign up for the TerminalLeave.com pre-separation checklist?
You can sign up for the checklist as early as you want, however the checklist items don’t start for separating personnel until about 24months prior to separation. As a retiree, you should sign up about 30 months prior to retirement.
What if I’m not sure if I’m going to get out – can I still sign up?
We recommend that servicemen and women sign up even if they are not sure whether or not they are going to get out of the military. Many of the checklist items are difficult to accomplish if you are constrained on time, and we feel it is better to be prepared.
Is theTerminalLeave.com checklist an official military approved checklist?
No. The TerminalLeave.com checklists are not official military approved checklists, however they are based off of the pre-separation checklists provided by each service. The “non-military” checklist items (checklist items for going back to school, moving, getting a job, etc.) were created by our team based on research and our own personnel experience.
The site seems geared for active duty servicemen and women, how can Veterans benefit from TerminalLeave.com?
The primary goal is to help active duty servicemen and women organize their transition out of the military. We also have a jobs database based off of Veterans surveys, which helps active duty servicemen and women make decisions about their career. The jobs database can be used by Veterans also to evaluate their career choice and see what careers other veterans with similar backgrounds have pursued.
How do active duty servicemen and women benefit from the Veterans employment survey?
Active Duty servicemen and women can look through the survey results in order to help determine a good career field. For example, if an army infantryman is trying to figure out which career to pursue, he or she can view what career other infantrymen and women pursued in their civilian careers. There is also information on pay, work satisfaction, and a variety of other important factors that can provide insight to servicemen and women looking at career choices.
